Diane's Initial Doodle Challenge

Challenge your creativity and explore Photoshop with the initial doodle challenge.

  • Start with file> new to set up your work area. Height, Width, Resolution and back ground color.

  • Create a new layer by going to Layer> New> Layer or going to the layers palette and pressing on create new layer button at the bottom of the palette.

  • Now fill with black. Edit> Fill> Fill with black.

  • Select the brush tool> set to Master diameter 9 pixels> hard edge >choose any color you like. Draw your initials or doodle.

  • Filter>Blur>Radial> Amount: 100, Method: zoom, Quality: Best

  • Doodle or Select the brush tool set to hard edge about 9 pixels choose any color you like.

  • Draw your initials.

  • Filter>Blur>Radial> Amount: 100, Method: zoom, Quality: Best

  • Filter>Stylize>find edges

  • Image>Adjustments> Invert (Command /Control + I)

  • Filter>Blur>Radial> Amount: 100, Method: zoom, Quality: Best (or experiment)

  • Filter>Distort>Wave


    • Type: Sine

    • Number of Generators: 5

    • Wave length min: 10

    • Wave length max: 120

    • Amplitude Min: 5

    • Amplitude max: 35

    • Scale Horizontal: 100

    • Scale Vertical: 100

    • Undefined Areas: Repeat edges

    • Random


  • Layer> Duplicate layer

  • Set blending mode to lighten in the layers palette

  • Edit >Transform> flip Horizontal

  • Merge layers (Shift+control/command+E)

  • Layers>New Adjustment Layer>channel mixer (slide until you have color you like)

  • Merge layers (Shift+control/command+E)



You are done. You have created a design from your initials to use as a logo, copyright, funky digital signature or modern art piece. Hopefully you have visited places in Photoshop where you have not been be for and had fun playing.
