Sue O'Kieffe

"Mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "whole world" or "sacred circle." Often referred to as the "Circle of Life," mandalas represent wholeness and are used as symbols for healing, prayer and meditation. The images I use to create these mandalas are a blending of the organic and technological. Flowers, tree bark, and leaves, as well as computer generated fractal designs, are digitally transformed into magical new patterns to bring healing and comfort to the viewer's spirit.

Artist Statement

I have been making mandalas since 1995 as a way to express my inner landscape. In 2005 I began creating mandalas in Photoshop.

All of my mandalas begin with an image from nature. At the beginning of this year I began collaborating with a geologist friend who has an amazing collection of crystals. He has been generous in sharing his photographs with me so I can feed my mandala making addiction.
